What I said prior to the Semi Final: "Hanna Pakarinen, winner of Finland's first series of Idols in 2004, will be seeking to secure victory on home turf with the rock song 'Leave me alone'. The song starts well, but then loses its momentum with a rather turgid and repetitive chorus. Hanna gives a visually striking performance, but in a year where there are so many rock songs at Eurovision there's a danger that 'Leave me alone' might get lost in the rush."

Televoters, however, have no such sympathies, dismissing the host nation's entry (Latvia 2003, for instance) if they think it's rubbish. The votes awarded by representatives of each country were totalled, with each of the 42 participating countries (plus the 'Rest of the World') then awarding points - 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - based on the overall voting preference of its representatives.
