With Željko Joksimović performing 'Lane moje', Serbia & Montenegro made its first appearance at Eurovision in 2004, becoming the last of the former Yugoslav countries to do so - Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia had been taking part since 1993, with Macedonia joining them in 1998. Still, it was worth the wait, with Serbia & Montenegro's 2nd place finish - having had to take part in the Semi Final first - equalling Poland's 1994 result as the best Eurovision début ever. Interestingly, subsequent publication of the Semi Final results, purposely held back until after the Final, showed that Serbia & Montenegro had in fact won the Semi Final, scoring 263 points to Ukraine's 256. By coincidence, Serbia & Montenegro gained an identical number of points in the Final, but with Ukraine now scoring 280, the country had to be content with the runner up's position. Needless to say, Serbia & Montenegro enjoys direct qualification to the Final for its second appearance at the Contest in 2005, and will be looking to build upon an excellent start to its Eurovision career.

What I said prior to the Semi Final:
"Kicking off with haunting fiddles, one can initially be forgiven for thinking that Serbia & Montenegro has recycled its 2004 entry - then the six lads from No Name start singing 'Zauvijek moja', and it turns into slightly bland, Balkan boyband fare. Having said that, the song has been nicely beefed up for Eurovision, with much better vocals and a more dramatic backing track. The No Name boys (or some of them, at any rate) are also quite pretty, which will no doubt appeal to the girls and gays and do their cause no harm at all..."

What I predicted prior to the Semi Final:
"My initial reaction to 'Zauvijek moja' was that the song was pleasant enough, the boys had a cute charm, but that it was hard to see Serbia & Montenegro repeating last year's success. In its new version the song is undoubtedly stronger, and with a memorable performance promised it may yet prove to be the dark horse of Eurovision 2005. It's certainly not a winner, but a place in the lower reaches of the Top 10 is quite possible, notwithstanding the bookies' odds of 33-1."

What actually happened...
Having suggested that "a place in the lower reaches of the Top 10 is quite possible" for No Name and 'Zauvijek moja', Serbia & Montenegro's eventual 7th place means that this was at least much closer than many of my predictions... With a creditable 137 points, including three 12s, this was a second successive top ten place for Serbia & Montenegro, coming after Željko Joksimović's success in 2004 - all the more impressive when you consider that none of the other east European nations to have joined Eurovision since 1993 have ever managed back-to-back top ten placings with their first two entries. As far as the performance was concerned, the six No Name boys appeared to have thrown in everything apart from the kitchen sink - including dramatic arm gestures, frenetic drumming, camp dancing, and surprisingly strong vocals courtesy of the band's very own Steve Stifler lookalike. Still, it successfully secured Serbia & Montenegro direct entry to the 2006 Final, who cares?

This was one of my favourite entries this year. The appearance of the boys meant that it was a bit like watching the film American Pie (complete with Stiffler lookalike!) but it was a very strong perfomance and a good song.

As a Podgoricanka i honestly thought dat "No Name", was amazing.
First of all da guyz r sooo fine....cute.so yeah. otherwise the song was da bomb. im serious . it was a great song and da drums and all da instruments were so kool. NO NAME is ma fav. group, and the guys r reallly nice. I met Marko prentic,peric,and Bojan Jovovic. Neways hopefully we will have someone as good as dem representing our wonderful country.
