This year's entry

Position in Semi Final draw: 21
Position in Final draw: Failed to qualify

What I said prior to the Semi Final:
" ...and next year too, by the sounds of it. Some countries, like Serbia and Montengro (2004) or Latvia (2000), have performed extremely well on their début; others, like Lithuania (1994), have scored nothing at all. Listening to the group Kaffe singing 'Lorrain', one imagines that Bulgaria's first effort may fall in the latter category. "I can still remember Lorrain in the rain" they drone, presumably referring to a girl rather than a wet quiche, though the lack of any emotion in the song makes it difficult to judge. While Kaffe may remember, Lorrain (shouldn't it be Lorraine with an 'e' by the way?) will presumably be doing her best to forget being serenaded by this dull and dreary song. It almost manages to make the most plodding ballads from 2004 - Austria's 'Du bist' and Ireland's dreadful 'If my world stopped turning' - sound lively and exciting. Don't get me wrong, it's great that Bulgaria is taking part, but what a pity that its first entry is so disappointing, particularly since 'Lorrain' - inexplicably - won over 50% of the televote in the country's national final, beating the absolutely beautiful 'Edinstveni' by Slavi Trifonov and Sofi Marinova. No wonder Bulgarians have been in uproar, alleging the result was fixed - even they can't believe that anybody actually voted for it."

What I predicted...

My prediction for Semi Final: 23rd to 25th
My prediction for Final: Will not qualify
See all my predictions for 2005

What I predicted prior to the Semi Final:
"What can you say? Bookmakers Coral make Bulgaria a 100-1 outsider to carry off a Eurovision victory at the first attempt, while only the efforts of Andorra and Monaco prevent Kaffe from languishing bottom of the Soult.com Eurovision Poll 2005. No one really believes this will qualify, and nor do I. Expect power and water surges across the continent as Eurovision viewers flock to their kettles and toilets for the duration of the Bulgarian song."

What actually happened...

Help, what's happening to me?! Despite my harsh words prior to the Contest, I have to confess that I actually rather enjoyed the Bulgarian performance. Perhaps it's just the kind of song, like Max's 'Can't wait until tonight' in 2004, that works best with a live band and a really good live vocal, particularly if that distracts your attention from the daftness of the lyrics. The singer also had quite an engaging manner about him, and was really rather good looking (not that that matters in a Song Contest, of course), despite his rather disturbing resemblance to 'Nasty' Nick Bateman from the UK's first series of 'Big Brother'. Whatever the explanation, 'Lorrain' certainly came across much better than I expected, and did well enough to pick up 49 points and 19th place.

The song belonged to one of my many favourites, but in particular in the semifinal for sure. It is pity that they didn't reach the grand final. can't believe it, such a good song. it caught my ear from the very first beginning. and a attractive singer as well...ehem...well yes...what about coming to asia someday...? don't be disencouraged that you didn't make it. you see, there are lots of people here telling they like that song, an evidence that it was not a shame!!

This song is great, but the accent sort of destroyed the song. I still think Orlin and Kaffe are great, and their song is wonderful.

"Kaffe" is from my country. The song which presented Bulgaria wasn't so... I don't like it so much!!! I'm very disapointed of them! Elena Paparizou was the best!

Your jazzy song was the best of this 2005 ESC. You were too good to be qualifyed for the final. To win eurovision song, you have to shout not to sing. Dont'forget it

I love your sound.
The sons 'Lorraine' is great.

I want to buy music of your band.
Did you make an album?
Where can I buy it?
Can you give me a title?

The Bulgarian group "Kaffe" was the best from all in Kyiv but they didn't win because their style of singing was much more diffrent than the style of the others, and the most importan - it was blues, not dance. However, they were the best and sang their song perfectly!

There were not many songs with westeuropean sound. Just a few,and Bulgaria was one of them. So that's why i gratulate them! It's not a traditional song and i believe it can be successful all over the world. Lorraine is not that commercial one which can win a competition like eurovision and for that purpose it was the wrong bulgarian song. For all that,Kaffe is very very groovy

I do also liked the bulgarian song! And the English pronunciation of the singer was also incredible. It is not to compared with the other not english speaking countries. For example: I needed 2 minutes to understand if the albanian singer is actually singing in albanian ot in english.Anyway! Our german song was awful as well.I wish good luck to everyone of the contestants and especially to that bulgarian band Kaffe ;)
