About this site

Now covering the 2007 season, Soult.com Eurovision is an irreverent but affectionate tribute to the Eurovision Song Contest!
As the contenders are chosen, see my reviews of all the 2007 entries, read my predictions about how they might perform at the big event... and laugh at all the ones I get completely, utterly wrong. Seriously though, my record isn't too bad - I did predict Latvia's victory in 2002, Jemini's 'nul points' in 2003, and Ruslana's victory in 2004, even if my predictions for 2005 and 2006 were slightly awry :)
So, if you're after (supposedly) witty Eurovision comment and opinion, you're in the right place; otherwise, if you're looking for the latest Eurovision news, I recommend visiting OnEurope, All Kinds of Everything, Esctoday.com or Doteurovision.com, all excellent sites that are much more neutral than this one, and updated regularly throughout the year.

Eurovision 2007

Following Lordi's victory for Finland in 2006, the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Hartwall Areena, Helsinki, on 10 and 12 May, featuring a record 42 participating nations.
Following the now familiar format used since 2004, the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest will once again consist of a Semi Final (on Thursday 10 May) and a Final (Saturday 12 May).
As usual, the so-called 'Big 4' countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain) are pre-qualified for the final, together with the ten other highest scoring countries from the 2006 Final.
The remaining 28 countries - the lowest scoring countries from the 2006 Final, those that failed to get beyond the 2006 Semi Final, four returners (Austria, Hungary, and Montenegro and Serbia participating for the first time as independent states) and two newcomers (Czech Republic and Georgia) - must first compete in the Semi Final. Of the 2006 participants, only Monaco has declined to take part in 2007.
As usual, the ten highest scoring Semi Finalists will earn a place in the Final; for the other 18, that will be the end of Eurovision 2007.
